Earth Vibrations AI Policy
While the world continues to become more polluted with algorithmically tailored generative AI content, Earth Vibrations Entertainment now officially prohibits the use of AI for the creation of visual art and music by those associated with the company. We are committed to ensuring that everything that the company helps produce or promote is the result of human craftsmanship. Under the new policy, Earth Vibrations is restricting AI tools to doing the tasks that most annoy creative people— like search-based research, data organization, and logistics.
We recognize that this policy is in need of ongoing refinement to keep up with changes in technology, namely that much of the software that artists have been using for years is constantly being updated with native AI features. We will not restrict our artists from using these tools as a component of their workflow, if they choose, though we will insist that they not use AI to perform any roles previously done by a human, or generated from start to finish by AI.
In the words of writer/director Vince Gilligan: " AI is the world's most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine", and we refuse to help devalue the work of those who have spent their life refining their craft. Earth Vibrations was founded to be of service to those we work with, not to force our artists into a cookie-cutter to appease the bottom line, and generative AI is a race to the bottom we will not run.
We know that others in this industry, from locally to globally, are going to make widespread use of this technology with no ethical or moral concerns. They were already shady long ago, and AI will just make them better at it. Our philosophy remains that it's better to fail doing right than win by doing wrong, and we will ALWAYS put good people, good music, and good times ahead of money.
